The "X" shelf is a design based on the physical principle of tensegrity, aiming to impress not only with its intelligently crafted structural concept but also through its interplay between organic forms and geometry. The versatility of its application is realized through various color options and a version featuring lockable cabinet doors.
Sketches
This design originated in the module "Tasks and Project Management." The fundamental idea behind our shelf design was to make the shelf exceptionally lightweight or at least give the illusion of lightness. For this purpose, we chose tensegrity, a structural system where the rods do not touch each other but are connected solely through tension elements. The materials used are matte polycarbonate for the shelf walls, 3mm carbon cord for the tension elements, glass bead-blasted aluminum for the suspensions, and terracotta for the shelf boards.
